Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 18 November
Shepherdsville - 10am - 2 Hours
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour. Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

Maree was very helpful. My only negative comment is to not have further meetings at Quills .they were very busy, people talking everywhere..I missed most of the group presentation due to that, but I was not the only one who could not hear. But the individual time Maree gave each of us made the class worth it. Looking forward to more (black and white probably my next)

Title or Location: Kentucky State Fair - Louisville KY
During a weekday visit to the Kentucky State Fair with my family, I always bring my camera to capture long exposure and general "street" photos. One of my favorite elements to utilize in my photography is reflections. I settled on this spot because of the water on the street and the symmetry in the reflections of the booths. The father and son in the center of the photo were an element that I was lucky to catch as part of the composition.

The Big 4 always offers great views into Louisville and into great sunsets. With this shot, we had a good cloudy day, right before sunset, nice reflections off the bridges and the buildings downtown and was able to line up the cable wires and the bridges to look like they are one.

I live near the water. As I worked in my garden, this eagle landed near the water's edge. It stayed long enough for me to grab my good old Cannon Rebel and I was able to capture several images with my 200mm lens. The bird seemed to have no fear of me. I moved slowly peacefully towards it and I ended up about 25' away. I did not want to scare it, so I only captured a few images. When I had finished, the bird remained here for quite some time. It was an amazing experience. I did crop the image to

What I love about this location and the Heigold House façade is the history behind the house over the years. For those that haven't seen it, it is worth a stop to check it out. Anytime I'm out shooting on River Road or the Waterfront, I pay attention to the skys and clouds to see if there is a good backdrop to stop by the Door to Nowhere.
